Saab Sees Brighter Roads Ahead

While Saab was sold by GM just last year, things are already looking up for the Swedish car company.  Victor Muller, CEO, Saab (named Entrepreneur of the year by Automotive News Europe in 2010) indicates that Saab will have its biggest and newest model line ever by 2012.

This may seem hopeful considering that GM put Saab into liquidation, halted assembly lines and stopped shipping cars to dealers before Spyker Cars (owned and founded by Muller) acquired Saab in February 2010.  However, Muller is confident that Saab will not only have the biggest and newest model line ever, but also turn a profit. He hopes to sell 120,000 cars worldwide.

By the end of the year, Saab will have an all-new 9-3 model on sale alongside the 9-5 sport sedan that just went on sale and the 9-4Xsporty crossover that arrives in mid-2011. The 9-5 and 9-4X were both developed before GM decided to sell Saab.

The Saab 9-3 will be the first product of the new, independent company, riding on a platform developed by Saab engineers rather than the GM platform used since 1994. It will also be the first Saab developed by Design Chief, Jason Castriota who has worked on many luxury cars in his day, including the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano and Maserati Gran Turisimo, before joining Saab in March. Saab followers will notice that the new 9-3 is longer and wider, but that it still carries that quintessential Saab aesthetic. "You don't need to see the logo to know it's a Saab," Muller said.1
