As a strategic location at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, its protected deep-water channels serve as a major trade artery for the import and export of goods from across the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and internationally.
The region's foremost art museum, the Chrysler Museum of Art, is in Norfolk, as are Nauticus (a maritime-themed science center and museum) and the Hermitage Foundation Museum (which features an eclectic collection of Asian and Western art). Norfolk is also home to several major performing arts companies, including the Virginia Opera, the Virginia Stage Company and the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. |
